ACH 400
Adjustable speed HVAC drives
3 to 400 HP, (208 – 480 volts)

Techni-Reps, Inc. ABB ACH 400 Adjustable speed HVAC drives
ACH 400 AC Drive –
Continually raising the standards

As the world leader in HVAC drives, ABB continues to raise tile standard in drive performance and functionality with the new ACH 400 Adjustable Speed AC Drive. We built upon the success of tile ACH 500--the world's most reliable HVAC drive by:

  • Making the ACH 400 simpler and smaller
  • Enhancing serial communications
  • Expanding HVAC application macros
  • Further reducing electronic emissions

The ACH 400 includes all of these improvements in addition to offering the industry’s first electronic bypass. The new ACH 400 is truly the next generation drive.

Serial Communications
No other drives manufacturer offers you more capability to control and connect to HVAC systems than ABB. In fact, we've connected over 15,000 drives to building automation systems. Just a simple two-wire cable and you're ready to go with Johnson Controls N2 bus, Siemens Building Automation-Landis division FLN, Modbus, Lon Works, and others. With the enhanced capability of the ACH 400 drive, you have the ability to economically control external peripheral devices like dampers and valves through the drive. Tile ACH 400 combines the functionality of a unitary controller with ABB's proven AC Drive technology. All of the drive's inputs and outputs can be independently controlled and monitored over the serial communications link. For the first time, non-drive functions can be controlled through the drive, allowing the user to reduce hardware and its associated cost.

Pump and Fan Control
HVAC application macros include HVAC, PID, Floating Point Control, and Pump and Fan Control. Macro-specific parameters are automatically set and every control terminal is automatically configured with the change of just a single variable.

Standard Keypad provides:

  • Alphanumeric display
  • Test meter and monitoring functions
  • Upload/download and parameter copy capability as standard
  • Four metered values displayed simultaneously
  • Values viewable with up to 29 selectable engineering units
  • "Bumpless" transfer from auto to hand reference
  • Remote mounting capability
  • Dedicated buttons for "hand-off-auto" and "manual speed" reference

UL®, CUL®, and CE Approved
The ACH 400 is designed to meet worldwide standards. Approvals include UL, CUL and CE. The drive also meets the Low Voltage and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directives for second environment applications in the European Union.

The Industry's First Electronic Bypass
The revolutionary microprocessor-controlled, electronic bypass provides the first real breakthrough in drive bypass technology. Rather than just repackaging the industry's standard bypass design, ABB engineers created an innovative new standard.

The electronic bypass features a voltage tolerance of +30% without contactor dropout or coil failure, single-phase protection in bypass mode, and selectable manual or automatic transfer from drive to bypass. Remote dry contact closures can also force the motor into bypass or drive mode. Fast-acting fuses exclusive of the ACH 400 disconnect the drive from the line prior to clearing upstream branch circuit protection, maintaining bypass capability.

The customer supplied, voltage independent start/stop dry contacts control both the drive and bypass. A membrane key-pad controls and indicates the operating mode, and displays the drive and bypass run and fault status. A fault-reset button is included for the selectable class 20 or 30 electronic over-load. A programmable underload feature provides Form C contacts for broken belt or coupling indication.
